Installing Ubuntu 18.10 on a Mac mini

What do you do with a 2014 Mac mini that has just been replaced with a 2018 Mac mini? You install Linux on it, of course.

Here’s a list of steps that I needed to go through to install Ubuntu 18.10 on the 2014 Mac mini. This applies to model Macmini7,1:

  • Insert Ubuntu 18.10 install USB drive into Mac mini USB port
  • Boot off of the USB drive
  • Done

I didn’t have to install any drivers or change any settings - everything “just worked”.
